November 3rd

Haven't posted out of laziness and just generally being busy. However, I have been working on some stuff, Rhys has two new attacks that will be implemented soon, she has character portraits! with facial expressions. I've tweaked some animations. I plan to at least wrap up stuff by adding the ability to have 2d backgrounds and no 3d backgrounds and add some stuff to the dialogue system. I'm hoping I can commission my friend to draw some cute scenes for the ending of the demo, but if she's not available, I'll just do some messy sketches.

Admittedly, I've been reassessing whether its a good idea to continue on the current path with this being a DMC-like. I'll definitely finish the demo and polish it up as best as I can, but I'm also considering that it will be a lot of work to create a bunch of unique outdoor scenes, so I'm also thinking of changing the setting to something entirely indoors, this would also make lightmap baking easier and asset reuse easier. I've also spent a disproportionate amount of time working on just the combat system, to the detriment of everything else and I'd like some different systems to mix things up. My attack system is extremely flexible so I might consider making a more simplified set of attacks. I think my current code would certainly work for the other ideas I have in mind. I'll also be keeping these characters because I've grown attached to them over the 3 years I've worked on them. Even if I change focus, this one will likely be put aside as a future project - especially when Godot gets a bit more mature and optimized - and when I get more experience.
